The PEOPLE Support Biden (Even If The Media Say Different)
Biden raises more money AFTER ‘the debate’, basks in NATO success; girl sues Trump for rape
Today Joe Biden is enjoying a huge success: the celebration in Washington of 75th anniversary of NATO, the largest and most enduring military alliance in history. More on that later.
First, another reason for him to smile: Trump’s lead over Biden has shrunk to the smallest it's been (2%) in seven key swing states since Bloomberg began polling in October 2023 – and that was measured after the recent debate debacle.
Trump led Biden by only 2 percentage points (47 to 45 percent) among all the swing states polled—Arizona, Georgia, Michigan, Nevada, North Carolina, Pennsylvania and Wisconsin. There was a margin of error of 1%, so it could have been close to a tie.
Biden is moving up in the polls, after the debate.
Biden excelled in a few keynote states: he was ahead of Trump in Michigan by 5 percentage points (48 to 43 percent) and Wisconsin by 3 points (47 to 44 percent).
This does not mean that everyone is happy with either choice: one-third said that neither candidate should continue their campaign. The Dems will, however, vote for Biden. When the headlines say that 4 Democratic members of Congress oppose Joe, it means that 98.8% support him.
It’s all in the way you sell a newspaper.
And, given the world we live in, these are the two people on the ballot for November, and Trump couldn’t even ride his rival’s dismal debate performance to prevent a decline in his polls. Instead, the polls keep punishing him.
Biden is rising up in public support. His team raised $264-million in the second quarter of 2024, including $38-million in the four days after the debate. This means that he raised $2.2-million/day before the debate, and $9.5-million/day after the debate - four times more than previously!
This is the sign of a campaign that is resurgent, not one that is slowing down.
Trump in the meantime continues to suffer from the lowest level of corporate support in the history of the Republican party. Among Fortune 100 chief executives, who lead the top 100 public and private U.S. companies ranked by revenue, not one has donated to Trump this year.
Trump’s most steadfast supporter has been Putin, who helped his campaign in 2016 in return for Trump’s support for his invasion of Ukraine. I’m going to propose here a name for the newest Russian ship: Battleship Trumptemkin. After ‘Battleship Potem…’ never mind.
The media overlooks the obvious because the media makes click-money from generating hysteria.
Back in the day, there were laws to keep things balanced. But Republican hero Ronald Reagan eliminated those laws, as a favour to Australian media mogul Rupert Murdoch. Faux News.
The longer-term fundamental issue is still women’s rights. But that will not grab headlines as well.
We are left with a reality of media distortion: how bad has it been?
According to Substack’s Jay Kuo, “the New York Times has run 192 stories about Biden’s debate performance and only 6 about Project 2025, according to media watch groups, since Thursday night. They know what causes clicks and reads, so just don’t give them the satisfaction.”
He advises (as I do) that to reduce the media hysteria quotient, you should read a neutral source like Heather Cox Richardson.
To explain before moving on: Project 2025 is the Republican plan for the end of America. The details are below. Trump says he’s never read it…and then he says that he disagrees with most of its points. That’s tricky, if you have never read it.
Lying swine.
His own staff members were part of the team that put Project 2025 together.
No one in the media billboarded that point.
Rachael Maddow did a nice job highlighting Trump’s performance when she asked a pointed question the other day in response to criticisms about how the Democrats picked an 81-year-old guy as their candidate.
“Democrats,” she sniped, “are not the party that picked the guy whose charity was shut down as a fraud,
· “Whose fake university was shut down as a fraud,
· “Whose business was convicted of multiple felony fraud counts,
· “Whose CFO is quite literally in jail,
· “Who had one personal lawyer who is in jail and another who lost his law license,
· “Who was found liable by a jury for sexual assault,
· “Who has been charged with more than a dozen felonies under a RICO indictment in the state of Georgia and who really has been found guilty by another jury of 30+ felonies,
· “For which he is now awaiting a possible prison sentence.
· “That’s who YOU GUYS picked.
“I love it that the worry in this instance is that the Democrats might have made a bad choice for their nominee…”
She left one little flaw out…
Trump has been accused in the documents released by Jeffrey Epstein’s message logs of raping and trafficking underaged girls. He forcibly raped one girl who was tied to a bed; when she begged him to wear a condom he struck her and screamed that he would do whatever he wanted. When she asked what would happen if she got pregnant, he threw some money at her at yelled at her “to get a fucking abortion”.
Here is the video of the young lady testifying about what Trump did.
She has now filed suit.
Trump just laughs. He cheated on his wife and its OK. He was liable for sexual assault on E Jean Carrol and it’s OK. He stole charity monies; no problem. Guilty of 34 felonies, stole top secret documents, denied a valid election and tried to stage a coup. But its he’s a great candidate.
And MAGA is not a cult.
This is who Trump supporters are voting for: a violent rapist who attacks little girls. When they’re tied down. Because you can’t be too careful.
But Joe Biden is old.
Where are the media headlines?
And where are they when Donald Trump is dementing?
He claims that he defeated Obama in 2016 (spelled “Clinton”). He claims that there is a law saying that all boats have to be electric, and he would rather swim with sharks than be in an electric boat (nonsense claim – but he is of course welcome to swim with sharks). He says that Biden is leading us into World War TWO (I know, numbers can be confusing). All this was nicely spelled out by Robert Reich…which shows that important people are flagging this dementia, if the media want to pay attention.
Yet the Washington Post is so anxious to get rid of Joe Biden – or eager to welcome in Donald Trump – that it has ignored Trump and helpfully written Biden’s withdrawal speech for him.
The paper’s editorial board put out a mock Biden message announcing his resignation from the presidential race: “My season of service is nearing its close…This is why I have decided to withdraw from the campaign for president of the United States…”
I do not think that presumption has ever happened before in American politics. As the Brits would say: “The cheek!”
Let’s step away from America’s shores to get the view of a UK paper, the Guardian:
“The pundit class of the American media is suffering from severe memory loss. Because they’re doing exactly what they did in the 2016 presidential race – providing wildly asymmetrical and inflammatory coverage of the one candidate running against Donald J Trump.
“They have become a stampeding herd producing an avalanche of stories suggesting Biden is unfit… They are not reporting that he is a loser; they are making him one.”
The non-media professionals have a story to tell, if they could only get the media to pay attention.
Professor Allan Lichtman has accurately predicted every US General election since the 80s. He says that with all the attention paid to Biden’s performance in the debate, Trump’s performance “was vastly worse”.
“It was based entirely on lies. He told 30 significant lies…that’s one lie for every one minute and 30 seconds.
“He threatened our democracy by saying he wouldn’t necessarily accept the results of a fair election.
“He said he would seek retribution – why wasn’t that the greatest concern from the debate?
“There is an old saying that it is not just the evil people who are responsible for seizing power; it is the people who don’t do enough to stop them and the media right now in Donald Trump gaslighting his way to the Presidency.”
The other big news today was that the U.S. added 206,000 jobs in June, bringing the total number of jobs created under this administration to 15.7 million. Last month’s numbers were, once again, higher than economists expected and, according to economic analyst Steven Rattner, above job growth levels before the pandemic. He added that these jobs are not simply a bounce-back from the depths of the pandemic: 6.2 million more Americans are employed now than before Covid hit.
And when Covid hit, Trump was personally responsible for killing 500,000 Americans from his inactions and denials during the epidemic. A Lancet commission estimated that 40% of all American deaths could have been avoided…and that works out to at least half-a-million people.
Why is he not being charged with mass murder?
Instead, the media bloviates about his age.
Trump’s the old guy who's 3 years younger, and he promised to take away your social security and give your boss a big tax break so they can buy another yacht.
Here’s his record of success thus far; this is what people should be voting on:
Let’s dig a bit deeper, and do a comparison of the effectiveness of a seasoned politician against an amateur blow-hard who picks his advisors from whoever flatters him the most…
Maybe what this shows is the difference between someone who takes his job seriously and someone who puts in a 3-hour day at the office watching golf games.
Now, back to something else positive about Biden: NATO.
This week its 32 members gather to celebrate its achievements under Joe Biden’s leadership.
The alliance has expanded to include two well-armed, strategically savvy new members, Finland and Sweden.
The number of NATO states spending 2 percent or more of their GDP on defense has expanded from nine to 23.
They will discuss a “bridge” to membership for Ukraine, and open an office in Kiev, and opening a NATO command for Ukraine in Germany.
The charge that Putin invaded Ukraine to stop NATO’s expansion is nonsense: he did nothing to Finland when it joined NATO. In fact. He shifted Russian troops away from the Finnish border to redeploy in Ukraine. If Russia feels safe enough to leave a 830-mile border with a well-armed NATO state undefended, then it is not worried about NATO.
Putin is actually worried about the expansion of democracy to the border adjacent to Russia.
After all, he can’t let Russians see what the real ‘will of the people’ means - not after getting 87% of the popular vote in his recent “win”. The vote was so distorted that some countries pointedly send him a congratulations note before the counting began.
Today, there is absolutely no doubt that the prosperity and security of the free West depend on NATO.
This is happening on Joe Biden’s watch. More U.S. soldiers are now deployed to Europe, and some 500,000 NATO soldiers are ready for combat in Europe. NATO will soon expand its military-industrial base, making it better prepared for the future.
If Putin is going to be a maniacal threat, then Biden will lead the West in the counter-measure, just as he did so quickly in 2022 when Russia first invaded.
Putin is now in Year 3 of his 30-day war. He would have taken Ukraine if Trump had remained president. We would be in a vastly different world today: a conquered Ukraine, a triumphant Russia on its way to its next conquest, a cowed and separate Europe, and an America facing the threat without the help of the 750-million people on the continent.
Biden did that. The heroism of Ukraine and its leaders is under no dispute, but they needed the US and the US was there – thanks to Joe Biden.
The American media that is undermining him deliberately today.
They would have turned the stomach of journalist and printer Benjamin Franklin, who started publishing his first newspaper at the age of 24. He once wrote that “When Truth and Error have fair play, the former is always an overmatch for the latter.”
I wonder if he would say the same thing about the deliberate and heedless distortions of today’s media.
What bothers me most, is that they will not be held accountable. If America falls because Trump gets into office, they will not suffer at all.
Pity.
They deserve to be fully accountable.
And forced to live in the place they helped create…Trump’s Jail.
Lichtman has a pretty good rebuttal in the link of the mini-primary path and said it has NEVER worked in the past. Either party has always lost the presidency if the incumbent didn't run and there was a "brawl" as he said. I suppose a few weeks of badmouthing each other could do that but then again it's prob never been tried running against a demagogue. He said the only Plan B is for Biden to step down as President and support Harris, based on history. At 21:30 in. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AXXu50lbdC8
Per the NYT piece just read: Clyburn, Pelosi, Raskin, Schiff, Khanna, Whitehouse, among many others have been quoted as concerned about his fitness, if not yet demanding he step down. Obviously some of them are still in leadership and have to play their cards very carefully to be team players. That's a lot more than just the MSM.
