Maine does have the ability to come first in terms of progressive thinking. I live in Santa Barbara now, I lived in Maine in the 1990's. Maine tends do it's own thing on the national stage that is different than anything the Republicans do now. I think it is a matter of time..

Didn't the old saying go, "as goes Maine, so goes the nation," or something like that? Isn't that why the primaries used to begin in Maine? Or did I miss something?

That's exactly right. I'm not sure if it i still valid.

Before you celebrate Mills withdrawal, ask : “Can Planter win?”. I don’t know the answer, but if he loses to Collins, you’ve written an irrelevant article. The same is true of course with the rest of the US.

You are absolutely right - and I have been wrong before. I predicted a Harris victory. Go figure.

Barry, I know I am a broken record … but until my dying day, I will maintain that Kamala did win, and the 2024 election was stolen from us. As was 2016. And 2000. Modern-day Repukes can only win the presidency by cheating. The truth is out there! See the This Will Hold Substack: https://thiswillhold.substack.com/

Let’s look at the “polls”. 😉

“On Kalshi, the contract asking whether Democrats will win the Maine Senate race is currently priced at 70 cents, implying a 70 percent chance of a Democratic victory, compared to roughly 30 percent for Republicans.

Trading volume stands at $329,316 as May begins. Polymarket shows a similar picture, with Democrats priced at 73 percent and Republicans at 28, based on $64,657 in volume.”

Connie, I don’t consider online betting to be polls or any kind of data. As I said, I don’t know the answer. To nominate for a Senate seat à 41 years old who held no elected office is a risk, to say the least. I live next door to Maine and I am seriously worried.

Connie Farnham's avatar

I was being facetious, because I don’t find polls any more reliable. I am a recent Mainer who now lives on the coast, almost to Canada, which votes republican. Lots of Platner signs, no collins.

Well, we thought Fetterman was a person of the people in PA and he's turned out to be a complete fraud. How does Maine know if they can trust this man?

Connie Farnham's avatar

We don’t, but continuing to do the same thing & expecting a different result is the definition of insanity & I am tired of feeling insane.

Joseph Campo's avatar

agree. so tired of the Kamalas of the Dem party.

omg. im so sick of gambling infesting every aspect of american life. I hear the word poll and immediately tune out. All I tiktok read in 2024 was how energized kamala was and polls showed this that the other. same with hilary. Polls are not ever to be trusted. imho.

Some great ideas and I really hope the American people get onboard.

Great article. I restacked two paragraphs with notes, as well as the entire article. Keep it up. We'll either win, or the whole messed-up society is going to collapse. I'm writing about homophily today.

Barry Gander's avatar

I will look forward to that!

I just want accountability and I think people like Platner are going to do all they can to provide it.

Excellent article Barry. Go Maine!!!

Do you actually believe that Trump really won the 4 "at play" states? Elon Musk has a lot of really good programmers and hackers working for him.

"It means doing more than going back to what we had: we need to re-invent the democratization of our economy." Barry, this statement applies to so many things - both nationally and internationally: the democratization of our politics, tax rules, international relations, courts, etc. A long list that, put together, seems impossible. So starting with the election of non-conventional Democrats is the place to begin.

Hopeful article. I fear that rump is going to force Alito and Thomas out of scotus and appoint two more lifelong conservatives. If usa can elect a change potus, they must have the courage to stack the scotus, should that be possible with senate and house majority. I am so tired of wishy washy moderate Dems who end up doing nothing that we need. We need people like AOC and Berni. They must be willing to put their on lives in jeopardy to fight for the right thing. All change people always risk themselves for the greater good. I fear that rump is going to do something disastrous close to election time to try to scare people. nothing is beyond this turd.
