Today It’s A World Without America – Thanks To Trump
Today all democratic countries EXCEPT the United States are gathering in Europe to plan a future without America.
The leaders of France, Italy, Poland, Germany, Canada, Czechia, Spain, Denmark, Norway, Finland, Sweden, the Netherlands, Romania, the Baltic countries and Turkey arrived in London, as are NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte and European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen. The Danish PM at the UN is overwhelingly in favour of Ukraine saying they have held off the Russians and protected the rest of Europe for 3 years and now all of Europe must step up and help more. And she endorsed the Ukraine's membership in NATO. She has more vision and spine than Trump will ever know.
And the ‘little people’ of Europe are also speaking up: Norwegian fuel supplier Haltbakk Bunker will not deliver a "single liter" of fuel to the U.S. Navy until U.S. President Donald Trump "is gone," said the company's CEO.
The people of the US would like America to be there, but one man – Donald Trump – has brow-beaten enough oligarchs into betting America’s future on Putin. Putin says that America’s direction now aligns with his vision.
The people of America do not like Donald Trump. He is the most unpopular president in modern times. He has the worst popularity ratings since the Second World War (Truman had to undergo the Korean War and firing of Douglas MacArthur to get lower). There have been only two presidencies with ratings lower than 15 points below average – and Trump’s presidencies hold both those titles.
Trump has no interest in democracies.
Trump has only disdain for former partners and workers, as revealed in his history of business bankruptcies. Trump has gone bankrupt six times, and has stiffed his former business partners and those employees he convinced to invest in his businesses. He said that no one was hurt in these losses except sharks. One of his German investors hanged himself. Other people feel shame. For Trump, other people are just fuel.
This disdain has carried over to his presidency.
He is now betraying all of America’s allies and America’s soldiers, in seeking revenge on people who stand for liberal values and the American constitution. Tell: Trump’s hand was not on the bible when he took the oath of office.
Elon Musk posted last night that the United States needs to leave NATO.
Trump did not gain office because of a popular mandate. He did not win because of a huge shift in voter preferences. His gain was in line with the growth in the population. He won because the Dem voters did not show up.
If 120,000 more Dems had show up in three key districts, Kamela Harris would be president now, and we would not be going through this nonsense. The number of people it takes to fill a stadium. If you all lose your Medicaid coverage, Trump won’t care.
When the voting tide ebbs, the shoal of razorback MAGA clams shows itself. The tide of Democratic voters did not show up in 2024, and Trump’s clam-base won by default.]
A map of the 2024 voters – not the territories – clearly shows that the Dems won the urban – read: educated – areas, while Trump won in places of poverty and ignorance. Both, BTW, are created by government policies. Trump will do nothing to bring a better standard of living to his base…because then they would learn that they should vote against him.
And America is not undergoing some kind of bewildering flip to MAGA values. America is a liberal country with liberal values.
The democracies, sad to say, are indeed better off without Trump. And someday, the American people will go back to the polls are re-join the democratic world – a world it largely invented and championed.
Trump’s most recent contribution to the cause of Ukraine has been to cancel support for the rebuilding of its electrical grid, which the Russians destroy every evening. But of course Putin is not carrying out an aggressive war.
We can see Trump’s next steps. He will cancel all umbargoes against Russia, renew Russian trade, lend Russia money, and send Russia military aid. He just offered their oligarchs $5-million gold cards that they can use instead of Visas. He is merging the countries.
Next time, vote! You are needed, to make a better world. One vote per precinct would have elected Richard Nixon rather than John Kennedy to the presidency in 1960.
But let’s flush Trump by way more than that. The cafes of Europe beckon…
America is no longer at the helm of world affairs, because everyone knows how Trump would steer…
Barry you wrote "someday, the American people will go back to the polls [and] re-join the democratic world – a world it largely invented and championed". I'm going to take exception to that. The roots of democracy have evolved over centuries of strife throughout Europe. Democracy is not an American idea and it is not something they have championed either. Name one country that America fought in that is currently a democracy due to American influence. There aren't any. For all it's terrible history, the UK created a long list of democracies, including some of the largest democracies in the world, like India. America didn't invent democracy and they certainly have not championed it over the last few centuries. There has always been a strong undercurrent of bigotry, racism and fascism in America. Sometimes it rises to the surface like a festering boil. Sometimes it almost seems to not exist. However, it is always there, seething for an opportunity. Trump is the opportunity of these times.
The only possible route out of this nightmare is for sane dem minds to back talk with Republican senators n Congress people who are up for reelection in districts where the current policies are getting constituents angry. Reps in close districts are probably going to lose. The only possible chance at redemption is to stand up for the right things n be counted. No idea if they have any courage or even self respect to do that. Otherwise it's midterms from hell, if we make it there.
